Memorial Day at NEVH

Memorial Day is the day set aside to pay tribute to our brave men and women who have served so honorably in all branches of the United States Armed Forces. Many of those have made the ultimate sacrifice--laying down their life to protect our way of life.

Families across America are celebrating and honoring our veterans and active duty military with family reunions, get togethers, and special memorial services. There are as many ways to note this holiday as there are different ways to serve our country.

Every holiday, not just Memorial Day, the dedicated staff at Northeast Veterinary Hospital are working behind the scenes giving loving care to all your pets in our care. Many of these pets are visiting with us so their families can journey to their destinations to participate in their holiday
traditions. These pets are being nourished, exercised, brushed, fussed over, and loved in your absence. You can travel with assurance that your family members visiting at NEVH are having a great holiday with us. Have a safe trip!

Loggerhead Turtles on Pritchard's Island

My family & I were very fortunate to be able to participate in the University of South Carolina's Loggerhead Turtle Project on Pritchard's Island for many years. We assisted in relocating Loggerhead Turtle eggs from their precarious nests into raccoon proof hatcheries where the eggs could incubate in the warm sand.

Later in the year, we returned and assisted the hatchlings down the beach and into the water. This was an experience of a lifetime. I shall always remember the majesty of those huge, ancient creatures digging their nests and laying their leathery eggs in the quiet of the night. Their trail up the beach wildly resembling tractor tracks. And not to be forgotten, the baby turtles fighting against all odds in their determined march to the sea.

I have led a charmed life.
